Debra S. – "Caring"
Debra’s heart to care for others can be traced all the way back to her childhood. Her family taught her the importance of looking for the need and helping someone else. With 14 aunts and uncles on each side, her family always took care of each other—that’s when she fell in love with caring for the elderly.
Her upbringing shaped her into the caring person she is today and led her to pursue a career in nursing. Debra is an LPN with more than 25 years of nursing experience, from working in hospital orthopedics to a doctor’s office to long-term care facilities. Prior to Interim HealthCare, she was a Unit Manager for Cedarfield HealthCare, where she managed 60 residents and 120 employees.
While Debra has always enjoyed caring for others, she was working really long hours, always on call and ready to slow down. So, when the opportunity came through Interim HealthCare Staffing to set her own hours, she made a change.
In April 2019, Debra joined Interim HealthCare Staffing in Richmond, VA as a Care Manager in home health. It was a welcome change that allowed her to provide one-on-one patient care, connect with others and meet their needs. When the pandemic started, she transitioned to a new role, providing COVID-19 testing to the local community at a shipyard and in the prisons. Debra loves her job and she is not afraid to put herself out there to support others and help her patients, whatever that looks like.
Working for Interim HealthCare Staffing has been an ideal career path for Debra. The scheduling flexibility, option to pick and choose assignments and the variety of work experiences it offers has been very rewarding. Right now, Debra is in a season of life where she needs the flexibility and it has worked out really well. She and her husband take care of their parents, so when she needs to take time off for doctor’s appointments or other needs, she can. And, if she wants weekends or holidays off, it’s not a problem. Her office is always very supportive and she really appreciates that.
One of the most rewarding aspects of her job is the relationships she has with her team. The owner of the office is very respectful of his staff and is always looking out for their best interests—from providing great assignments that keep their skills sharp to ensuring they have the PPE required to perform their job safely. And, the team of nurses she works alongside are amazing. They all genuinely love their job, respect each other and work well together.
Interim HealthCare Staffing has given Debra the ability to fulfill her calling to care for others in a way that fits her personal schedule and family priorities. In many ways, it has expanded her career and opened up new opportunities she never had before. She loves her job and is so grateful for the flexibility, autonomy and balance is has given her. Nursing is Debra’s life and she always gives 100 percent—nothing less—to caring for others. In every way, she is made for this!
