Renee H. – "Lovable"
Caring for others is not just a job to Renee; it’s a calling. Whoever she cares for, she is determined to give it her all.
Renee has always had a nurturing spirit. When she was young, she helped take care of her little sister and as she got older, she continued on a path of caregiving. When a friend’s mother and grandmother became ill, Renee stepped in to care for them on days when the family needed help, and it just kept building from there.
Renee’s passion to care for others grew through her own health struggles. As a cancer survivor, she understands firsthand what it means to persevere through hard things and it has shaped her into the compassionate caregiver she is today. Whatever a patient is going through, she assures them it will be okay and that they’ll figure it out together.
After high school, Renee worked as a diet clerk at a local hospital. Her willingness to help patients beyond her required duties won her the admiration of the charge nurse on her floor. She saw something special in Renee and encouraged her to pursue a career in nursing. Inspired to take her career to the next level, she went to school to become a certified medical assistant (CMA). In time, Renee moved on to another hospital where she worked as a patient caretaker. In January 2021, Renee made a major life change and moved to Houston. That’s when she discovered Interim HealthCare. She applied for a position with their Houston office and shortly thereafter, was hired as a CMA.
The most rewarding part of Renee’s job has been the ability to gain new experiences and build her skills through Interim HealthCare University’s online training center. Working with dementia patients, this has given her a deeper understanding of their disease and how she can support them at each stage. Recently, she began caring for hospice patients as well, which has expanded her pool of skills. Renee is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in nursing and health information. Her dream is to become a doctor of osteopathic medicine with a specialty in holistic medicine, working with cancer patients and infants with defects.
Just as fulfilling are the relationships Renee has built with the office staff. They are beyond supportive to her as an employee and as an individual dealing with cancer. Moreover, they value her opinion and do their best to match her to clients that are a great fit, which means a lot to her.
Renee’s calling to care for others was demonstrated when she stayed with a dementia patient for three days and nights during a major snow and ice storm. From power outages and pipes bursting to removing insulation and carpeting that posed health risks, Renee went to great lengths to ensure her patient was safe, fed and happy until the storm was over. Her lovable nature and willingness to do what needed to be done in the face of extreme circumstances is absolute evidence—Renee is made for this!
